Leave of Absence

The Division of Graduate Education is pleased to announce the launch of the new online Leave of Absence (LOA) application. This application form streamlines the process for submitting and reviewing LOA requests, employing an all-web-based workflow similar to the current Filing Fee and Graduate Degree Petition applications.

The new form enables:

  • Students to check their academic and financial eligibility (notifying them of active fellowships and/or other appointments) and submit their applications;

  • Staff, including the Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars (as applicable), to review and enter decisions;

  • Students, faculty, and staff to view and monitor the status of applications in the review process;

  • Staff to access an archive of completed forms via the Grad Web Portal.

The LOA application form also enables the submission of exception requests for the following:

  1. Late submissions - applications submitted after the published deadline but during the current quarter

  2. Requests with below a 3.0 grade point average

  3. Retroactive submissions

  4. Requests above the 3-quarter maximum

The online Leave of Absence application form is now available to eligible graduate students via: https://grad.ucla.edu/academics/graduate-study/leave-of-absence-request/
